THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the Gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God.
In the same way that our God has eternally existed in the persons of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, unified amidst diversity as One, so is the basis of the Apostles teaching that the body of Christ should be unified together both in oneness in the hope that the Gospel brings, but also in our labors for the Gospel together.
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
On this basis he encourages the saints to suffer together as one when one member is suffering, but also to rejoice as one when one member is honored.
For no honor is ever bestowed upon a man’s feet alone for running a race, instead the whole man is honored as a runner.
And no honor is ever bestowed to a man’s mouth for speaking a speech, instead the whole man is honored as a speaker.
And so it is with the body of Christ.
The saying is true that there is ‘strength in numbers’, but that strength is only useful to accomplish any task when the body of believers operate in unity; each functioning in their respective positions.
Let us conduct ourselves therefore, in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ as we labor together as one.
