God wants our hearts, and nothing short of it.
It is both human nature due to original sin, plus we are born into – a world of hurts, bitterness, worries, anxiousness, anger, resentments, regrets, & unforgiving heart issues which is sin in us.
But in Christ we have hope!
This is a simplified description of the steps involved in a physical open heart surgery procedure, the lessons of which I pray would give you deeper spiritual insight into the operation that is taking place in your life during spiritual surrender to the Lord
Carefully consider these steps
I will give you a new heart and put in you a new spirit; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh
Open Heart Surgery
Enter directly to the heart
Open your thorax and access the heart
This involves sawing through your sternum
Cracking open your rib cage
Opening up your chest cavity
It takes a tremendous amount of courage and trust to allow someone access to your heart
Begin extra-corporeal circulation
This means they must start pumping blood and oxygen into the other parts of your body via a machine to sustain it during the operation
They essentially have to put you on life support to keep you alive while you undergo this procedure
They must stop the heart
In this moment, a death has to occur
In order to work on the heart, they can’t have it operating as usual. It must be stopped in order for the surgery to be performed
Whether a double bypass or quadruple bypass, the heart is now ready for changes to take place
They fix the problems at this point
They replace the heart and stop the extra-corporeal circulation
The heart begins to function as it should, supporting the rest of the body
Post-Operation Intensive Care
They move you out of the operation room into intensive care to surround you with the right people to support your recovery
You’ve got to stay at the hospital for a while and allow a new circle of people to care for you who are attentive to your heart
They send you home for rest and re-education
Changes to lifestyle should be made to support the new heart
Break in old habits, diet, etc that allow the support of a healthy new heart should be implemented
Post Operation Report
A change of heart is not an easy thing, and the Lord Jesus does not ever indicate that He has invited us to an easy procedure. He is truthful about all that we will undergo, but He does promise that just as he underwent His sufferings and overcame, we too shall undergo and overcome all adversities in the shaping of our new life in Him
He promises to be with us always, in every awesome high or stormy low lending comfort to our souls and peace which surpasses human understanding. Peace that others will not be able to understand. Hope of a victory in something that produces an eternal benefit – Reconciled relationship with God
He promises that nothing can separate us from His love. Even if we were to die on the operating table, He gives us a full assurance that neither life nor death can separate us from His everlasting love for those in Him, Our choice to surrender to His procedure was the beginning step of faith that leaves death behind and allows us to enter into life with Him. It shows that we trust in His wisdom and love for us
Some may shrink back at the idea of open heart surgery
It really is a very difficult thing to fathom until you are face to face with that decision.
But, so is death apart from receiving the life of Christ, and the salvation that He came and suffered in the body to purchase for us, and then rose from the grave to give to us
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be zealous and repent.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him and he with me.
He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with me on My throne, as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches
In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither the present nor the future, not any powers, neither heights nor depth, not anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord
