Spiritual Warfare – Vigilance

Vigilance The action or state of keeping careful watch for possible danger or difficulties

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the LORD
Isaiah 54:17

Formed – Bring together parts or combine to create (something); Organize people or things into a group or body

Righteousness – Adhering to moral principles

Did you know that the individual things that you are attacked with by your spiritual enemies are unique to just you?

In the scriptures, God gives us knowledge that the weapons that we are attacked with daily are “formed” which by definition means that they are “created” specifically for you and against you.

This is of utmost importance to know, because this is how we can begin to understand and identify where our spiritual enemy is attacking us personally. This is something that only we personally can address in humility and truth of knowing ourselves.

Example:
Do you think too high of yourself over others? (Pride)
Do you think too low of yourself compared to others?
Do you doubt?
Are you always scared or fearful?
Are you engaging in lustful thoughts?
Are you engaged in covetous thoughts of others and their possessions?

Maybe, if you have a right mindset towards yourself and people, then your enemy is attacking your thinking, but rather your speech.

Example:
Do you constantly put down others?
Do you boast?
Do you swear?
Do you lie?
Do you judge?
Do you gossip?

And even so, if you believe yourself to be perfect in the sight of God, adhering to all of his prinicples of thoughts and speech, then maybe the enemy seeks to destroy you in the physical sense.

Example:
Are you taking care of your body?
Do you care about your health, diet and hygiene?
Do you smoke?
Do you drink alcohol?
Do you do drugs?
Do your eyes “wander” inappropriately?
Do you physically harm others?

I want you to take notice of how our thoughts, words and actions are interchangeable all stemming from the same place.

Believe it or not, these are all caused by spiritual attacks that are catered specifically to where you personally are weakest. You might be in church and hear a preacher speaking about violence and thinking to yourself “I’m not violent so that doesn’t apply to me”, but do you care about the well-being of others? Do you pray for those who are still lost in their thinking, in their words and in their actions? Your attack could even be in a lack of compassion for others.

Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother or sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
1 John 4:20

The adversary has many ways of attacking so it is important to consider the many ways that you might be vunerable in order to better prepare yourself for spiritual warfare. The Word of God is our handbook of truth of salvation and is used to discern the truth in our hearts.

For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart
Hebrews 4:12

Sometimes when I read certain things in the bible, I used to begin to think to myself “I don’t think I can do that”

But that in itself is an attack on me.

We learn in the gospels that Satan used the very scriptures in the Word of God to try and tempt Jesus, which teaches us that Satan can also use scriptures against us. In thinking “this is too hard” or “I can’t do that”, we have allowed our real spiritual enemy to gain ground.

Knowing the truth and having confidence in God as well as a scriptural expectancy of victory found in His Word will help to guide our steps, protect our hearts, discern our thoughts, and lead both our words and actions to a life that is pleasing to God.

And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do what pleases Him
1 John 3:22

We must learn to constantly guard ourselves in thoughts, words and actions from the attacks of the enemy by the renewing of our minds and pray for assistance as well as forgiveness for the times that we fall short. Jesus made a way for us to find forgiveness and we require constant dependency on God to navigate through the plains of life. Our spiritual enemies are forming weapons as we speak designed particular to our individual weaknesses. So be sure to take up the Full Armor of God and stand firm in the faith.

Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but  be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is; His good, pleasing and perfect will
Romans 12:2

I wish you peace and protection brothers and sisters.

Blessings always,

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and the He rewards those who seek Him
Hebrews 11:6
